The mission behind the technology
Ian's career included enterprise communications supporting healthcare and behavioral-health operations, including Employee Assistance Program services, mental-health support and suicide-prevention resources. The technology sat behind 24/7 contact-center agents whose ability to communicate with people was part of the service itself.
That environment changed the definition of success. Availability, continuity, clear communication and rapid recovery were operational requirements — not simply infrastructure preferences.
MISSION IMPACTWhen people are reaching out for support, the communications platform has to be treated as part of the mission, not as background technology.
24-hour P1 leadership
During one major platform upgrade, the change failed and escalated to Tier 4 engineering. The incident continued for roughly 24 hours, including difficult time-zone and communication challenges. Ian remained engaged through the investigation, coordinating technical resources while providing hourly status and ETA updates to upper management.
While the technical team worked toward resolution, interim voicemail messaging was established so customers had clear information rather than simply encountering silence.

Military OneSource
Ian also supported the Military OneSource environment, where communications technology helped enable services for military members and their families. The lesson carried forward: understand the mission, understand the people depending on the service, and engineer the technology around that reality.
